Understanding the Window of Tolerance
Understanding the concept
The window of tolerance is a clinical metaphor for a range of arousal in which a person can stay present and process information. It is a useful teaching framework, not a diagnostic test or a precisely measurable window.
What this might look like
Some people notice agitation, racing thoughts, or urgency above their usual range, while others notice numbness or disconnection.
A question to reflect on
Which signs help you recognize when you need grounding, rest, or support?
